When a pipe leaks, it becomes obvious pretty quickly. Supply lines are under pressure, so when a water line leak occurs, water sprays out forcefully. You can often hear water spraying inside the wall or ceiling, or you’ll see wet drywall or even pools of water.
If you have a water line leak, call a Virginia Beach plumber as soon as possible. At Awesome Drain & Waterline Repair, we have emergency plumbing technicians available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We can get someone out to fix your leaking pipe fast.
In the meantime, here are a few things you can do to temporarily fix a water line leak and avoid further damage to your walls, ceilings, floors or fixtures.
How to Temporarily Stop a Water Line Leak
Turn off the water supply line or the valve that controls water flow to the leaking or damaged pipe. Usually, shutoff valves are located near where the cold water pipe enters the home, or on the pipe directly leading to the water heater. To shut off water to your entire property, including sprinklers and outdoor faucets, look for the main valve near your water meter.
Apply a pipe repair clamp over the pipe leak. If you don’t have one on hand, you can make a temporary substitute by wrapping the damaged section of pipe with rubber. Then, clamp over the rubber wrap with a C-clamp, a pipe-sleeve clamp, or an adjustable hose clamp. (It’s generally a good idea to keep a pipe repair clamp on hand, especially if you live in a cold climate where pipes are more likely to freeze and burst.)
After you have the leak temporarily stopped, get an experienced plumbing technician to your home to make the permanent repair. Give Awesome Drain & Waterline Repair a call today!
